Household chores may never feel effortless, but appliances that make our day-to-day lives easier have definitely come a long way over the decades. Take a fun look back at vintage ads that tout then-innovative inventions, such as the gas range, electric broom, portable television and more!

Highlighting the modern gas range’s ability to “take the hard work out of cooking,” this ad from the American Gas Association promotes the myriad advantages to cooking with gas.

Touting itself as the “world’s greatest foodkeeper,” this ad for the 1956 Kelvinator refrigerator boasts innovative new features including the “Banana Bin” and “Breakfast Bar.”

This advertisement draws attention to the ease of using Whirlpool’s “work-free” Surgomatic washer. With the touch of a button, the Surgomatic can clean a 10-pound load; with the touch of another, the machine will even drain the wash water!

“No waiting between waffles. No embarrassment of who’s going to be next.” The Sunbeam waffle baker’s biggest selling point is that it makes four “good-sized” waffles at one time!

KitchenAid’s ad points out the aesthetic value of the newest available color in its line of portable dishwashers: Golden Harvest.

“Light… quick… modern” declares the ad for the Regina Electrikbroom. It claims to take the place of a carpet sweeper, broom, dust mop, dust pan and upholstery bush, all in one amazing tool.
Toastmaster makes beginning the day even easier by gathering all your morning essentials with the “Toast ‘n Jam” set.
