Allow Yourself to be Childlike
It was a Tuesday and the kids would be out of school the following day for Veterans’ Day. My husband was away on a business trip. Everything seemed to be lining up for an impromptu middle of the week sleep over. I told the kids they could each invite a friend to spend the night.
After doing so, I questioned whether I had just created more unnecessary work for myself. I came to realize that I didn’t. The combination of kids got along very well and they had fun being together. In fact, they got along so well there was nothing for me to do - no fights to break up, no sibling stuff to deal with, nothing.
When I realized I wasn’t needed, I decided to have a sleep over with myself. I did something I’ve never done before. I took my laptop off my desk, brought it into my bedroom, snuggled up in bed and watched a movie. It was so much fun.
I felt like I was a kid getting away with something sneaky. In reality, I was a grownup remembering to be a kid.
Allow yourself to be childlike.
